The Ultra Light series offers the highest performance among any ballistic plates on the market. It's made from silicon carbide (SiC) ceramics that are harder and lighter than alumina ceramics.
The Mark 2 plate has incorporated an anti-spall plate in the front, which eliminates spalling of ceramic shards which could injure the wearer. It also has expanded ceramic coverage of 9.5x11.5" which is 16% more than the previous version. The new Mark 2 plates weigh in at mere 4.5 lbs vs 7 lbs that our competitors offer.
We tested them with 2 rounds of 7.62 NATO M80, 2 rounds of 5.56 M193 and 2 rounds of 5.56 M855. None of them penetrated the plate. Backface deformation is 1/4" for 5.56, even when the green tip struck right next to the edge. For 7.62, the deformation was around 1/2" to 3/4".
